Cosmetic Dentistry and Restorative Dentistry sometimes overlap each other.
The main difference between the two is their focus and the level of expertise of the dentist. The cosmetic dentist not only focuses on correcting the teeth’s functioning but also on the overall look of smile (aesthetics), whereas a restorative dentist would only help an individual achieve a set of fully functioning teeth. What is Restorative Dentistry?
Restorative dentistry refers to the management and procedures that your dentist performs to keep your mouth healthy and functional.
These procedures include putting in dental implants, dentures, fillings, and crowns. Restorative dentistry is only concerned with keeping the mouth functioning as best as it can. Eventually this process will also improve one’s smile. Issues that restorative dentistry procedures can fix
The most common issues include cavities which are filled to prevent further decay; missing teeth that are replaced with implants, bridges, or dentures; and broken teeth which can be strengthened and protected with crowns or caps.
What is Cosmetic Dentistry?
Whereas restorative dentistry is primarily concerned with keeping teeth healthy and functioning, cosmetic dentistry is more focused on improving the look of your smile. While dentists always put the health of your mouth first, having cosmetic procedures done may not necessarily improve how well your teeth actually function.
What are the most popular cosmetic dentistry procedures?
People choose to improve the look of their smiles for various reasons. Chipped, uneven, or yellowing teeth are frequent issues seen in any dental office and may be sources of self-consciousness for many people. Teeth whitening, bonding, veneers, orthodontics are the most popular procedures in cosmetic dentistry.

Finding the right and trustworthy dentist in Mississauga to give the responsibility of keeping your teeth in the best care is the most important thing. Do you know the things to bear in mind when finding the right dentist? If you’re looking for a new dentist, here are five tips to keep in mind. 1) Save money by staying in your network When searching for a dentist the best way is to ask around. There are high chances of getting useful information about a dentist from past clients and other people in the community. 2) References are good If you want to know whether a dentist is good at taking care of his or her patients, ask the patients! Ask family, friends, neighbors or co-workers for recommendations. 3) Ask the right questions Don’t be afraid to ask some pre-appointment questions to make sure the dentist is the right fit for you. A few good ones to ask: Is dental health instruction provided? Are special arrangements made for handling emergencies outside of office hours? 4) Check out the office during your first appointment During your first appointment, take note of the office space and facilities. Is the office easy to get to from your home or job? Does the office appear to be clean, neat and orderly? Is the staff friendly and accommodating? These are clear signs you should consider. 5) Get information about fees and payments first Make sure that you and your dentist have a clear conversation about the charges and how payments will be made. It is better to clear all your doubts about payment options and medical plans before starting the treatment. Invisalign is a popular teeth-straightening device and a less-noticeable alternative to metal braces. The treatment uses a series of clear plastic trays, which are worn to straighten the teeth and close gaps. How it works? Each aligner shifts your teeth slightly, moving them horizontally and vertically and even rotating them when needed. Your aligners are engineered to use the right amount of force in the right place at the right time. When you change to the next set of aligners (typically every week) your teeth gradually move into position. How long does it take to see results? Most of the time, patients will notice visible changes in their mouth within three to four months. However, certain cases may show sooner. 1) Practically Invisible Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible. Hence no embarrassment amongst friends or colleagues unlike traditional braces. 2) Removable Food easily becomes lodged around and in between metal brackets, making the cleaning process much harder. Since Invisalign aligners are removable, you can still floss and brush your teeth as per normal so you can eat what you want. 3) Comfortable Having metal continually rubbing up against the side of your mouth can produce irritation, discomfort, and sometimes even open sores. Invisalign boasts a smooth plastic surface that produces no discomfort to the mouth lining. 4) Fewer dentist visits Unlike braces where you have to visit your dentist once every 3-4weeks, Invisalign frees up your schedule with visits to the clinic only every 6-8 weeks.
